Pateros wants the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to put up urinals in the municipality and provide towing services.

Pateros Mayor Rosendo Capco expressed this wish when he talked to reporters after the Metro Manila Council meeting held last week at the MMDA office in Makati.

“Pateros has very narrow, two-lane streets and some drivers would still park their vehicles there, causing heavy traffic. Isang sasakyan lang mag-park, traffic na (One parked vehicle can cause traffic jams),” Capco said.

Capco also wants MMDA urinals installed all over the municipality, especially at tricycle terminals.

“It’s better to have the MMDA urinals at the terminals because the gasoline stations are too far for the drivers,” Capco explained.

However, Capco suggested that the MMDA put doors to the urinals instead of the ‘open type’ style it had installed in other parts of Metro Manila.

Trucker organizations held a protest caravan last week decrying the reported abuses of MMDA’s towing operators and their personnel.

The Metro mayors met with MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando last week to discuss the reported abuses.

Fernando reminded towing operators, both those accredited by the local goverment units and the MMDA, to inform the MMDA Metrobase before their wreckers tow the vehicle.

“They should call the Metrobase first before they literally engage the hook on the vehicle so that the driver or owner would know where to claim the vehicle,” Fernando said.

The MMDA chairman also clarified that the towing charge of P1,400 for big vehicles and P1,000 for small and light vehicles are fixed rates.
